Performances scheduled for Saturday 5/15 at the Cherry Street Pier, 121 N Christopher Columbus Blvd, Philadelphia, PA 19106: premiere of Our Philadelphia for six instruments, commissioned by Orchestra 2001 as part of its “Emerging Markets” series. There will be two socially-distanced, open-air performances at 1:30 and again at 2:30, as part of the Sisterly Love Food Fair in the middle of the pier. Admission: free.
“Tak Kenal Maka Tak Sayang” (“To know is to love”), a socially-distanced outdoor concert featuring Indonesian dance, gamelan music, and poetry, will take place Saturday May 22nd (rain date Sunday May 23rd), 5 pm at the Fleisher Art Memorial, 719 Catharine St, Philadelphia, PA 19147. Admission: free; donations are welcome. This is a collaborative program with Modero Dance; Bearded Ladies Cabaret; and Gamelan Gita Santi, a community-based Indonesian percussion directed by Whitman in South Philadelphia, sponsored by the Philadelphia Folklore Project.
